Adore Delano’s “liberating” decision to come out as trans

Taking to Instagram, the 33-year-old American celebrity got candid about her journey and shared an insight into the changes taking place in her life in the last few months.

“I wanted to let everybody know that I am transitioning and I kept it really, kind of hush-hush the first three months because I wanted to go through the beginning stages of puberty privately,” Adore began her Instagram video. “I’ve found that it’s been very enlightening and has made me probably the happiest I’ve ever been in my adult life.”

Further in the emotional clip, Adore said that her choice to transition and publicly announce the decision has been “empowering” and “liberating”.

“I’m living in my world now, and it feels so empowering, and it feels so good,” she continued. “It feels so liberating.”

Adore “suppressed” her real identity during American Idol stint

During the 10-minute video, Adore touched up on several different topics and one of them was her appearance on American Idol in 2008. The star said that she started to “suppress everything” when she got an audition for the reality show.

“I reinvented myself into something that was so uncomfortable,” she explained. “It was almost like a sacrifice in order to get what I wanted career-wise. It made sense to me at the time, as a 16-year-old, and then I got on the show, and that carried on in the story on Drag Race.”

After her departure from the musical competition, Adore became “more femme-presenting” and went on to appear in season six of RuPaul’s Drag Race.
